Ghana Enterprises Agency

Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are increasingly recognized as drivers of economic growth and development globally, particularly with respect to their contribution to government revenue, job creation and alleviation of poverty. Government in recognition of the importance of this Sector, established NBSSI (Act 434 of 1981) to accelerate the development of the MSMEs Sector through the implementation of Projects and Program. In 2020, Parliament passed Act 1043 to transform the NBSSI into the Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA). The Act was assented to by the President on 29th December 2020 to play a leading role in the promotion and development of MSMEs. The vision of the GEA is to create a Vibrant World Class Entrepreneurial Economy by fostering the Growth and Development of MSMEs. The mission is to facilitate the creation of an enabling business environment, the development of financial and non-financial services, and the building of supportive institutional infrastructure.

The GEA under the project will spearhead the rapid development of the MSME Ecosystem through two major Grant schemes –
(a) COVID-19 Response Grants for SMEs and SME Growth Grants and
(b) Technical Assistance support for High Growth SMEs and
(c) several targeted interventions to enhance the growth and development of the ecosystem
